Irina Dezhina

Irina Dezhina is Head of the Economics of Science and Innovations Division at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow. She graduated from the Moscow Institute of Railroad Engineers, economic department, in 1984 (BA degree). She received her candidate degree (Ph.D.) in economics in 1992 from the Institute of National Economy Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and her doctorate degree (D.Sc.) in economics in 2007 from the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Thesis title: “Government Regulation of R&D in Russia”.

Dr. Dezhina was a Fulbright Scholar at the MIT Program “Science, Technology, and Society” (1997), and worked as Science Policy Analyst at SRI International, Washington, DC, USA (1998-1999). For twelve years (1995-2007) she worked at a Russian “think tank,” the Institute for the Economy in Transition, Moscow. She has been a consultant for the World Bank, CRDF, and OECD. Dr. Dezhina has more than 180 publications including 10 monographs. . She is a member of Editorial Board of the “Sociology of Science and Technology” journal (published by Russian Academy of Sciences).
