Jose Alberto Sampaio Aranha

Graduated in Chemical Engineering from UFRRJ (Brazil), José A. S. Aranha is postgraduate in Business Management, from PUC-Rio Business and Management Institute (IAG). He is also post graduated in International Trade, from International Trade Study Center (CECEX) and NOVA (Nova Southeastern University – FortLauderdale – FL).
Aranha not only directs PUC-Rio Genesis Institute that is responsible for PUC-Rio business incubation program and PUC-Rio Junior Business Program, but also is director of REDETEC – Technology Network of Rio de Janeiro state.
Aranha is also a member of the Board; of Endeavor Brazil, the Educational Institute of the BOVESPA (Stock exchange), SEBRAE RJ (support services to small businesses) by REDETEC and Koan Consulting Services. He is the Coordinator of the Working Group’s innovation of ANITEC (national association of corporate education) and curator of TEDXRio.
He was director of ANPROTEC (the Brazilian Association of Science Parks and Business Incubators) 2000-2007, member of the Board of Directors of Softex Program 1995-2007, coordinator and founder of the Genesis and REINC (Incubators Network of Rio de Janeiro). He is an Ad Hoc consultant of UNESCO, CNPq, FINEP, National Sebrae and CNI / IEL.
Aranha has published several articles and books, such as InterFaces a book edited by Editora Saraiva in 2009 and chapters as: “Incubadoras” of the book “Faces do empreendedorismo inovador” – volumen III – Coleção Innova FIEP (SENAI/SESI/IEL) in 2008, “Alvo no Emprendedorismo – Política Nacional de Desenvolvimento Regional” of the book “Política de Gestión Pública Integrada” – Editora FGV en 2008, “Novos mecanismos de apoio da incubadora cultural Gênesis” of the book “O Negócio da Cultura à Cultura do Negócio” editado pela Anprotec em 2005. “Business Incubator Management Model”, a book edited by Rio de Janeiro Technology Network in 2002; a chapter about business incubators in Prof. Louis Jaques Filion’s book “Boa Idéia e Agora?”, edited by Cultura Editores Associados in 2000; a chapter about PUC-Rio Business Incubator in the book “Incubators by its Managers”, edited by Anprotec em 2001; the chapter “Being an Entrepreneur, a Right of Citizenship”, in the book “Environment, Culture and Development”, edited by Sette Letras; and the chapter “Towards a New Model of Corporations”, in Magis book “O resgate das dívidas sociais”, edited by Loyola Center of Faith and Culture. Aranha has presented several works in conferences, such as “Entrepreneurship in the engineering curriculum: some initial results of PUC-Rio’s experiment”, at the International Conference on Engineering Education – ICEE 98, Rio de Janeiro, September/1998; “The Science Based Entrepreneurial Engineer – A New Vision for Engineering Education“, at the World Congress of Engineering Educators and Ind. Leaders, Paris, July/1996.
Aranha was awarded the InRio 2000 Award (Year Prominence Category), the ASSESPRO Award, for his performance in the IT segment in Rio de Janeiro State. In 2001, he was nominated one of the 100 most important people in the elite of Brazilian technology by InfoExame Magazine.
It was one of the authors in 2005′s best practice InfoDev – World Bank to “Modeling the Business Incubator” – and one of 350 thinkers on the future of innovation in 2010.
Received the award for the best companies incubated in 1999 by MHW and in 2000 by PipeWay. He was awarded the University-Industry IEL as the best “Entrepreneurship Program at Institutions of Higher Education in 1998″ and the best incubator of Anprotec in 2000.
In the social area was the project coordinator of INFODEV World Bank in the community of Vila Canoas in Sao Conrado (RJ).
He has experience in local development, business incubator, innovation, entrepreneurship, management of C & T and innovation environments
