Stephen B. Adams
Associate Professor of Management at the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business, Salisbury University, and holder of the 2011-2012 Robert W. Smiley Jr. Economic History Fellowship from the Rutgers University School of Management and Labor Relations.
Professor Adams will participate in the Oxford-style debate on the motion “This house believes that Silicon Valley is a relevant innovation model for other regions in the world”. He will defend the motion, arguing that Silicon Valley may not be easily matched as a high-tech region, but the Silicon Valley model can certainly be replicated. His scholarship involves high-tech regional development and the relationship between industry and higher education. His work on Silicon Valley has been published in Research Policy, Minerva, California Management Review, and Enterprise and Society. His current book project, Before the Garage: Institutional Builders of Silicon Valley, explores how Silicon Valley became a model high-tech region. His first book, Mr. Kaiser Goes to Washington: The Rise of a Government Entrepreneur, demonstrated the variety of entrepreneurial opportunity presented by public-sector activity or policy.
