Jose Manuel Carvalho de Mello

José Manoel Carvalho de Mello is Visiting Professor of the Graduate Program in Production Engineering, Research Associate at the Center for Studies in Innovation, Knowledge and Work – NEICT, and Advisor to the Innovation Agency, Federal Fluminense University. Graduate in Chemical Engineering (1965), UFRJ (National School of Chemistry) with specialization in Economic Engineering (1967) UFRJ master’s in Production Engineering (1969) from COPPE / UFRJ and Ph.D. in Production Engineering (1973 ) from the University of Birmingham, England. He holds a research grant from the Brazilian Research Council (CNPq). He was Head of Analytical Laboratory, Esso Brasileira de Petróleo (1967/1968); Scientific Technician, Superintendent of Planning, CNPq (1976/1977), Professor of the Master Program in Education at the Fundação Getúlio Vargas -IESAE / FGV (1997), Adjunct Professor of the Rio de Janeiro Catholic University (PUC / RJ) (1976), Advisor to the Office of Research of the National Bank of Habitation -BNH (1976/1977), Advisor, State Secretariat of Science and Technology, Government of Rio de Janeiro (2002). Associate Professor, Program of Production Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro- UFRJ (1969-2003).

He was Research Fellow at the Management Center, University of Bradford, England, 1974; Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre Science, Technologie et Société, Conservatoire Nationel Arts et Metiers, Paris. .1984-1985, under the direction of Jean-Jacques Salomon. Researcher at Centre de Sociologie des Arts, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales / Paris., with the team of Alain Gras (1987). Postdoctoral Fellow, Visiting Scholar, Science Policy Institute, State University of New York, Purchase College. working with Henry Etzkowitz (1997-1998).

His main research lines are: Scientific Knowledge and Technology; Triple Helix of University-Industry Relations, Government, Local and Regional Systems Knowledge and Innovation; New Environments for Innovation: Incubators, Parks and Tecnópolis; Management Innovation in Organizations R & D Social Dimension of Technology.
