Dr. Han Woo Park

I am currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Media & Communication, YeungNam University, South Korea where I teach courses and conduct research on various computer-mediated communicational and informational issues, focusing on the use of new digital technologies in extending social networks and the role of communication in scientific, technical, and innovative activities. Over past several years, I have contributed important works in the area of Link Analysis (also called, Webometrics) from the perspective of Social Network Analysis.

I am a Principal Investigator of an international research project “Investigating Internet-based Politics using e-Research Tools” (Apr. 2008-Aug. 2012) funded by S. Prior to this position, I had been a research associate at the Royal Netherlands Academy’s group called Virtual Knowledge Studio. I received my Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2002.

I have been a very active member of ICA(International Communication Association), INSNA (International Networks for Social Network Analysis), and AoIR (Association of Internet Researchers) since I participated in a doctoral program.  Since 2007, I have served as co-editor of Journal of Contemporary Eastern Asia.

I have been published and presented several research papers in prestigious international conferences and served chairing/responding to some panels in those conferences. I have been elected a paper reviewer for international journals as well as conventions. My research has appeared in several international journals such as Journal of American Society of Information Science and Technology, New Media & Society, and Scientometrics. I served as a guest editor of Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication’s Special Issue on Internet Networks.
