Helen Lawton Smith

Professor of Entrepreneurship, Birkbeck, University of London, Honorary Professor, School of Business, Management and Economics, Sussex University, Visiting Professor Halmstad University, and Director of Research, Oxfordshire Economic Observatory, Oxford University. Her research interests include: entrepreneurship, innovation and regional development, university and industry linkages, and scientific labour markets. Her current project is ‘Where are they now?’ a longitudinal study of 182 high tech firms in existence in Oxfordshire in the mid-1980s’. She is the author of two books, including Universities, Innovation and the Economy (Routledge 2006), editor/co-editor of eight books and author of over 80 journal articles and book chapters. Recent publications include, ‘The research university, entrepreneurship and regional development: research propositions and current evidence’ Entrepreneurship & Regional Development (forthcoming) (with Sharmistha Bagchi-Sen), and ‘Triple Helix and Regional Development: a perspective from Oxfordshire’ Technology Analysis and Strategic Management (eds Loet Leydesdorff and Girma Zawardie) 22 7 805-818, (also with Sharmistha Bagchi-Sen).
